This CPB has been revised to state that Aetna considers acupuncture experimental and investigational for irritable bowel syndrome, peripheral arterial disease (e.g., intermittent claudication), rhinitis, and xerostomia because there is inadequate scientific research assessing the efficacy of acupuncture compared with placebo, sham acupuncture or other modalities of treatment in these conditions.
