This CPB is revised to state that continued use of a positive airway pressure device beyond the initial authorization period is considered medically necessary if the treating physician documents that the member is benefiting from positive airway pressure therapy. This CPB has been revised to state that the following are considered experimental and investigational for the treatment of adult obstructive sleep apnea: (i) lingual or pharyngeal tonsillectomy; (ii) nasal valve surgery, polypectomy, septoplasty, and turbinectomy; and (iii) hypoglossal nerve neurostimulation.
